Leg Quarters Under a Dollar at Piggly Wiggly This Week
September 03, 2026
This week's flyers are full of late-summer fruit and some genuinely surprising protein prices. Watermelon is on sale at nearly every store covered this week (Giant, Meijer, Kroger, Food City, and Piggly Wiggly all have it for under $4), and grapes are everywhere too, which tells me it's a great week to stock up on both while they're still at their peak. But the real headline for me is the chicken and pork prices at a couple of stores this week. When leg quarters drop below a dollar a pound, that's the kind of deal that gets my attention every single time.
This Week's Best Deals
- Piggly Wiggly Fresh Fryer Leg Quarters, $0.69/lb - I don't say this lightly, but that's about as low as chicken prices get. Grab a few packs, roast or grill them, and you've got a week of cheap, filling dinners.
- Meijer Fresh from Meijer Family Pack Chicken Drumsticks, $0.99/lb - Another rock-bottom chicken price. Great for baking a big batch and pulling the meat for sandwiches, soups, or just serving as-is with a side.
- Meijer Fresh from Meijer Whole Pork Shoulder Butt Roast, $1.79/lb - This is the cut you want for slow-cooked pulled pork. Low price, and it freezes beautifully if you're not ready to cook it right away.
- Food City Pork Baby Back Ribs, $1.99/lb (limit 8 lbs, with digital coupon) - If you've been waiting for a reason to fire up the grill one more time before fall settles in, this is it.
- Lidl Red Seedless Grapes, $1.29/lb - The lowest grape price I found this week across any store. A good excuse to keep a bowl washed and ready in the fridge for snacking.
Quick Breakfast & Lunch Ideas
For an easy breakfast, Giant has Pete & Gerry's Grade A Organic or Pasture Raised Eggs for $4.99 and Thomas' English Muffins on a Buy 1 Get 2 Free deal this week, so an egg and muffin sandwich costs you next to nothing to put together.
For lunch, Piggly Wiggly has Sliced to Order Kretschmar Turkey Breast for $7.99/lb along with Kraft Singles at $2.99 and Philadelphia Cream Cheese at $2.49, which gives you everything you need for a solid deli sandwich without much fuss.
If you just want something light on the side, Publix has Honeycrisp Apples on a BOGO deal this week, and they're a nice, crisp addition to either meal.
Let's Get Cooking
There's a lot to work with this week, especially if you're stocking the freezer with chicken or pork while the prices are this good. Take a look at the full meal plans on the site to see how these deals can turn into a week of meals without much extra thinking on your part. As always, I hope you find something in there that makes your kitchen (and your wallet) a little happier this week.
