Peaches at $1.49/lb and Drumsticks Under a Dollar: Stock Up Now
August 14, 2026
It's a good week to stock the freezer and the fruit bowl at the same time. Peaches are showing up beautifully priced across multiple stores right now, which tells me we're right in the thick of stone fruit season, and that's worth paying attention to. A few other deals caught my eye this week that are genuinely worth a trip.
This Week's Best Deals
Meijer: Chicken Drumsticks at $0.99/lb
I've been cooking for a long time and I can't remember the last time I saw drumsticks this cheap. At $0.99 a pound in a family pack, you can feed a crowd for next to nothing. Roast them with whatever seasoning you have on hand, or simmer them low and slow for a pot of soup.
Kroger: Perdue Chicken Drumsticks or Thighs at $1.29/lb
If you're near a Kroger instead of a Meijer, this is nearly as good a deal on the same cut. Worth grabbing a family pack and splitting it between the fridge and freezer.
Lidl: Butcher's Specialty Chicken Leg Quarters at $0.99/lb (with Lidl Plus)
Three stores with excellent prices on dark meat chicken this week. At Lidl, the leg quarters come in at $0.99 a pound with the Lidl Plus card. If you have a card and a Lidl nearby, this is hard to beat.
ALDI: Raspberries at $1.79 per 6-oz package
Mid-August raspberries at that price are worth picking up. Eat them fresh, stir them into yogurt, or freeze them for later. ALDI also has organic blueberries at $3.69 a pint, which is reasonable for organic this time of year.
Publix: Ragú Sauce, Mueller's Pasta, and Bertolli Olive Oil, all BOGO
Three pantry staples on a buy one get one deal at the same store, in the same week. Stock up on pasta and sauce now and you'll thank yourself on a busy weeknight in October.
Giant: Sweet Potatoes at $0.79/lb and Eastern Peaches at $1.49/lb
Both of these together cost less than a dollar a pound, and they're about as seasonal as it gets right now. Roast the sweet potatoes for a side dish, slice the peaches over oatmeal or yogurt.
Quick Breakfast and Lunch Ideas
Eggs and Thomas' English Muffins (Giant)
Giant has eggs at $1.99 for a dozen large, and Thomas' English Muffins are on a BOGO deal this week. That's a straightforward, inexpensive breakfast for the whole week. Toast a muffin, fry an egg, done.
Deli Lunch at Piggly Wiggly
Kretschmar Virginia Ham is $5.99/lb sliced to order at the Piggly Wiggly deli, and Toufayan Pita Bread is $1.99 a package. A simple, no-fuss lunch that doesn't require turning on the oven.
Publix Cuban Sandwich
If you don't feel like cooking at all, Publix has their Cuban sandwich in the grab-and-go deli section for $3.99. That's a solid lunch for less than four dollars.
