Stock Up on Chicken at Kroger and Meijer This Week
August 20, 2026
It's a good week to stock up on chicken, and if you shop at more than one store, you can do even better. Kroger has Heritage Farm boneless chicken breasts at $1.99/lb, which is genuinely hard to beat, and Meijer is selling fresh family pack chicken thighs at $1.49/lb. With late-summer produce still in good shape and some solid pantry deals scattered across the flyers, there's real money to be saved this week if you know where to look.
This Week's Best Deals
Kroger: Heritage Farm Boneless Chicken Breasts at $1.99/lb. That is a strong price for boneless skinless breasts. Buy a big family pack, use what you need this week, and freeze the rest in meal-sized portions. You'll be glad you did come a busy weeknight in October.
Meijer: Fresh Family Pack Chicken Thighs at $1.49/lb. Thighs are more forgiving than breasts, they stay juicy even if you cook them a few minutes too long, and at this price they're worth grabbing a few pounds. They do well roasted, braised, or on the grill.
ALDI: Avocados at $0.59 each. That's a fair price for avocados any week. Grab a few at different stages of ripeness so you're not trying to use them all at once.
Piggly Wiggly: Skippy Peanut Butter at $1.69 each (15-16.3 oz). Peanut butter keeps, and $1.69 is a price worth stocking up on. Grab two or three if the store allows it.
Publix: Barilla Pasta, BOGO (8.8 to 16-oz pkg.). Pasta is one of those pantry staples where a BOGO deal is always worth acting on. Bertolli Sauce is also BOGO at Publix the same week, so you can put together a solid pasta dinner without spending much at all.
Quick Breakfast and Lunch Ideas
Eggs and toast on the cheap. Food City has That's Smart! large eggs at $1.69/dozen, and that same store has That's Smart! sandwich bread at $1.69 a loaf. That's a week's worth of breakfasts for well under four dollars total, which is hard to argue with.
A simple lunch with what's on sale at Giant. Giant has Boar's Head Ovengold Turkey Breast at $4.49, Artesano bread at $2, and NatureSweet Cherubs tomatoes at $2.59. Those three things together make a good sandwich without any fuss. Pick up some Giant shredded cheese at $2.50 if you like a little cheese on there.
Quick snack plate for the kids. Kroger has Frigo String Cheese (12 ct) or Babybel Cheese (8.5 oz) at BOGO, and strawberries or raspberries at $1.99 each (with digital coupon). That makes a perfectly good after-school plate with very little effort.
